General information about our department:
Iskenderun Techical University, Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department accepted its firs student in 2015-2016 academic year and continues enrolling students. In addition to undergraduate education, MSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering can also be studied in the Institute of Graduate Studies. Teching langue for the programs is Turkish.
Our department is located in the cenral campus in Iskenderun. There are 2 Professor, 3 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professor and 1 Research Assistant Dr. in our department.
The main scientific studies in our department are; Starting from organic and inorganic, natural or synthetic raw materials, it covers the design, development, production of polymer, glass, ceramic and metal-based engineering materials and their derivative composite materials, and their selection and integration for advanced technology systems. In particular, different projects related to the Iron-Steel and Filter industry are being managed, and our 3rd and 4th grade students will be provided with the opportunity to work on projects in the upcoming periods.
In the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department, the topics of study in general can be collected under the following headings:
- Iron, steel and cast iron materials,
- Iron and non-ferrous alloys (aluminum, molybdenum, titanium, magnesium)
- Technical ceramic materials
- Composite materials (for space exploration, airframe, rocket mechanisms)
- Polymer and organic materials (especially non-flammable materials suitable for sound-hot-cold environment)
- Biomaterials (artificial organs, synthetic bone tissues)
- Electronic materials (diodes, transistors, capacitors)
- Nano-materials (graphene, nanotubes, nanowires and different nanoparticles)
- Energy systems and their related materials (energy storage: batteries, reactors, hydrogen storage)
- Functional thin film coatings (heat and light sensitive smart glasses)
- Modeling and simulation (material properties, determination of production processes)
- Defense industry (armor materials, insulation materials)
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering graduates, which are a very wide department in terms of job opportunities: There are wide job opportunities in the ceramic, automotive, aircraft and defense industry, casting industry, solar energy, glass, plastic, cement, biomaterials, nanomaterials and composite materials sectors. In addition, there are job opportunities as a researcher or specialist in research centers of universities. In short, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering graduates can find job opportunities wherever there is production and R&D.
