Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department Metallography Laboratory
In the metallography laboratory, metallographic preparation of different types of samples (metal, ceramic, composite, etc.) is carried out for microstructural analysis with optical and/or electron microscopes. In this process, the samples are subjected to cutting, sanding, polishing and etching processes depending on the material type and sample dimensions.
Devices in our laboratory:
1. MICRACUT 151 - Precision Cutting Device
The precision cutting device makes millimetric precision cuts in the preparation of metallic samples, allowing samples to be taken from materials that are small in size.
2. ECOPRESS 50 - Automatic Leveling Press Machine
The Automatic Coating Press Machine enables the molding of very small sized samples that cannot be handled by hand. Bakelite is used to mold samples under temperature and pressure. ECOPRESS 50 has a fully electro-hydraulic pressure and drive system and is a hot molding press in which various samples are prepared. Touch front panel provides high efficiency and easy use thanks to the function of saving the last entered parameters.
3. Forcipol IV - Metallographic Grinding and Polishing Device
Metallographic Grinding and Polishing Device allows polishing of samples after sanding. Abrasive solutions are rubbed into a cloth on a rotating disk and the sample is moved back and forth on the disk either in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the disk or between the center of the disk and its circumference.
