Fisheries Engineering Program
Our faculty is one of the first 7 faculties of Mustafa Kemal University which was founded in 1992. With the establishment of Iskenderun Technical University in 2015, the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology has been restructured within the scope of technical university. Faculty is located at the center of İskenderun main campus. In addition to the main building, research laboratories unit, freshwater and marine fish research and production unit, decompression unit (pressure chamber), diving tower (which is first in Turkey) are located at the faculty campus.
Fisheries Engineering program is the most comprehensive program related with marine and aquatic life within other undergraduate programs. This program involves aquaculture practices of fish, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic plants, hunting and food processing applications.
NON-REFUNDABLE GRANT POSSIBILITY
First three students who entitled to enroll the Fisheries Engineering Program will be awarded with non-refundable grand during their entire education period by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey.
DYNAMIC, YOUNG AND SUCCESSFUL ACADEMIC STAFF
Our faculty consists of four departments namely Marine Sciences, Aquaculture, Marine Technologies and Water Resources Management and Organization. Faculty offers a single bachelor degree program which includes 4-year education. Our faculty has a strong academic staffs who have national and international scientific studies and projects and open to innovation. Academic staff contains a total of 31 academicians, 16 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, 2 Research Assistant and 1 Lecturer. There are many research facilities located at the faculty campus mainly related with hunting, genetics, aquaculture, marine sciences and food processing applications. Also, our faculty has a research ship named ISTE RV I.
Applied Education
We know the importance of practical training in education; so, we put it in the center of our educational program. Our laboratories and additional buildings contains research and production facilities related with marine and inland waters, decompression unit (pressure unit), the Diving Tower (first in Turkey). Also we have a research 27 meters long vessel named ISTE RV I which was granted from Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.
Graduates from our faculty gain the title of Fisheries Engineer. In addition to this career, they can be either deck officer or diver, if they successfully completed optional trainings.
WHO IS FISHERIES ENGINEER? WHAT DO THEY DO?
A fisheries engineer work on
- Hunting of marine plants and animals,
- Production of aquatic animals and plants,
- Selective breeding of marine plants and animals,
- Food processing of marine plants and animals,
- Determination of production areas of aquatic organisms in marine and inland water systems,
- Design and management of fish aquaculture facilities.
In other words,
A fisheries engineers is a/an
chemist who knows water and water chemistry,
hydrobiolog who knows marine organisms and their morphology,
ecologists who knows the nature and its balance,
marine technologist who knows how to get benefit from aquatic life,
design engineer who can put creative designs,
food expert who knows processing of food products,
captain who can guide and control a ship,
fisherman who know under sea.
DIFFERENT and COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Our faculty offers a single, 4-year long educational program. Graduates from our faculty gain the title of fisheries engineer. Different from other fisheries engineering programs, our faculty offers two other job opportunities to the students. Students can choose to be either deck officer or diver, if they can successfully completed their additional, optional education. Students can practice in diving tower located at the faculty campus, complete their optional education and become a diver. Similarly, they can become deck officer if they complete the trainings given from Barbaros Hayrettin Shipbuilding and Maritime Faculty of İskenderun Technical University.

The main mission of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology is to carry out research that will contribute to scientific development on an international scale and to raise individuals who have the ability to think independently, who closely follow the sector and technological developments, who ensure the dissemination of knowledge for the benefit for society.
Vision
The vision of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology is to be among the leading faculties in the field that provide education at the international level, work to reach high standards in academic research and use its experience for the benefit of society
We aim to educate fisheries engineers who equipped with many skills and knowledge related with marine world as wells as be able to become a diver or a captain. Within the direction of our mission and vision, we would like to educate analytical thinking engineers who would be useful for our country and world.
