The architecture of our faculty is unique in the world and it was built as a ship. Our faculty, which cares about university-industry cooperation, has been structured by taking the opinions and support of non-governmental organizations and other sector representatives, especially the İskenderun Chamber of Shipping and the İskenderun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, since its establishment. In this context, a modern ship-like building consisting of three conference halls, one for 300 people and two for 80 people, with a closed area of 17000 m2, a library, a student and staff cafeteria, 5 simulation centers, 24 classrooms and 45 lecturer offices, was brought to our faculty. During this period, the process of creating a strong academic staff was initiated by recruiting academic members and research assistants to the faculty, and this process continues.
Our faculty was founded on 23 March 2012, named after Barbaros Hayrettin (Hızır Reis) Pasha, who made great contributions to the transformation of the Mediterranean into a Turkish Lake during the reign of the Ottoman Empire's first Captain Pasha, Grand Admiral and Suleiman the Magnificent. In the foundation of the faculty, the 'maritime sector' was considered as a whole and departments were created.
Our faculty consists of four departments:
- Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering
- Department of Maritime Business Administration
- Department of Marine Engineering
- Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
