HISTORY
Our department has been operating within Iskenderun Technical University since 2015. There are 3 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor and 5 Research Assistants in the department. There are two active laboratories where applied trainings and scientific research are carried out.
DEGREE EARNED
Students who successfully complete this program give a bachelor's degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering.
ACCEPTANCE CONDITIONS
Students are accepted to this program with the placement result document given by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).
TRANSITION TO THE UPPER LEVEL
Students can continue their graduate education in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Completing successfully all courses with 240 ECTS in 8 semesters and having a GPA of at least 2.25/4.00.
Doing an internship for 20 working days twice (total 40 working days).

WORKING AREAS AND AUTHORITY OF THE OIL AND NATURAL GAS ENGINEER
The working areas of petroleum and natural gas engineers are explained most comprehensively in the "Chamber of Petroleum Engineers Free Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Services Implementation, Registration, Inspection and Minimum Wage Regulation" published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey dated 18.1.2012 and numbered 28177. According to this regulation, the main service areas are:

Fields of Activity in Drilling
Drilling of oil, natural gas, oil and other gases linked to natural gas, geothermal, water and other underground resources.
Preparation of the well location, preparation of the drilling rig, preparation and implementation of all projects related to material supply.
Preparation, implementation of wellhead safety system, drill string, drill, drilling mud, hydraulic, protection pipe, core, well tests, cement, salvage, well control, well completion and all other programs in order to ensure safe and economical drilling and its interpretation.
Fields of Activity in the Subject of Production
Petroleum, natural gas, oil and other gases related to natural gas and geothermal
and implementing production plans and programs of resources.
Determination of porosity and permeability of rocks and tests and experiments that determine the properties of fluids in rock and their movement in reservoir rock.
Selection and application of primary and improved recovery methods that can be applied at production sites.
Planning, application and evaluation of efficiency and pressure tests of wells.
Making reserve studies of the fields, preparing field development programs
Determination of the most accurate production technology according to well yields, selection, planning and application of surface and underground pumps.

Preparation and implementation of re-completion programs suitable for today's technologies such as pickling, hydraulic fracturing, cementing, perforating, swabbing from the formation and log operations for petroleum, natural gas connected to production wells.
Elimination of all technical malfunctions in the wells.

Planning, planning and operating facilities related to petroleum, natural gas, other gases and geothermal resources related to petroleum and natural gas.

Planning, scheduling and operation of underground and aboveground parts of storage facilities.
Planning and implementation of oil, petroleum products and natural gas storage, filling and unloading operations.
Apart from the Free Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Services Application, Registration, Inspection and Minimum Wage Regulation, the fields of activity regulated in other laws and regulations are as follows:
Department of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): "Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) Market Law and the Electricity Market Law" numbered 5307 and accordingly the "Liquefied Petroleum" prepared by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey with the number 28499 and dated 16.12.2012. According to the regulations in the Gases (LPG) Market Training and Responsible Manager regulations, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineers can work as “Responsible Manager” in companies that carry out LPG filling and distribution. In order to Responsible Manager, it is necessary to being successful by participating in the trainings organized by TMMOB Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical and Environmental Engineers chambers.
Occupational health and safety expertise: Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineers can work as occupational health and safety experts according to the provisions via "Regulation on Duties, Authorities, Responsibilities and Training of Occupational Safety Specialists" prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security as required by the Law No. 6331 on "Occupational Safety and Health" and published in the Official Gazette with the number 28512 of 12.2012. For the job, it is necessary to fulfill the condition of receiving trainings and certificates specified in the relevant law and regulation.
In the facilities where mineral oil production activities are carried out, the responsible directorate: The “Paper on Packaging and Presentation of Rock Oil”, which was published in the Official Gazette No. 27844 on February 12, 2011, by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, gives Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineers the authority to be the responsible manager in mineral oil facilities.
Authorities regarding natural gas domestic installation and service lines: In Annex-6 of the Natural Gas Market Certificate Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated September 25, 2002 and numbered 24887, while the occupational groups authorized to carry out domestic installation and service lines and construction and service activities in the natural gas market are counted. ; petroleum and natural gas engineers are also authorized in "Mechanical category of Project/Consultancy works" and "Feasibility/Survey works".
