GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Iskenderun, the largest district of Hatay, is developing rapidly in terms of industry, commerce, and tourism. Hatay and its immediate surroundings are in a sensitive position both in socio-economic and geopolitical terms. Especially in recent years, immigration has been taking place from Syria and settlements close to the Syrian border to the city center or district centers. The new concept of migration has caused a population increase in the city and its surroundings above the average of Turkey, and unplanned settlements have increased rapidly. The growing population has the right to shelter, nutrition, education, and a healthy environment. Balanced positioning of all spaces such as housing, infrastructure, health, commerce, tourism areas in the living areas of individuals, while making plans considering the living standards of individuals is the main task of City and regional planners.
Considering the agricultural productivity of Hatay and the tendency of its people to produce and market products specific to the region, the importance of regional planning comes to the forefront for this geography. The continuity and dissemination of rural production will be supported by the projects to be carried out by our academicians, and partnerships will be established with the local people. Development funds prepared by our state institutions for our region and many investments received from foreign resources should be managed correctly and rationally and directed in a sustainable way. With the activation of our department, relations with public institutions will increase, and regional development will be supported with plans and projects to be prepared together.
Students who will study in the Department of City and Regional Planning will be trained as active, realistic, solution-oriented planners who can master the technological methods and techniques used by the planning discipline and experience the analysis and evaluation processes with real actors within the framework of the TECHNO-UNIVERSITY vision of our university. In the planning project courses, which have an important place in the education process, real areas where students can bring concrete solutions and practice with public support will be selected and applications will be made using current computer programs. When the students who will be trained by our department graduate, they will serve our country as individuals who are capable of making plans and project applications, using current computer techniques in planning fields, and able to analyse and evaluate the data.
