Project Desciption:
“Heritage” is an asset, an entity that has passed on to us from previous generations. When we call it “cultural heritage”, we are not talking about money or property, but about culture, values and traditions. Cultural heritage means a shared bond, belonging to a community. It represents our history and identity; and also represents our bond with the past, the present and the future. Cultural heritage reminds a common past to societies and to members of societies, strengthens the ability of unity and solidarity, and ensures the continuity of traditions and diversity.
UNESCO aims to promote the protection of cultural and natural heritage sites with outstanding universal value. To this end, “Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage” was adopted in 1972. The idea of international initiative for the preservation of heritage is one of the main motivations of UNESCO and aims to raise awareness at the international level as an action on the protection of cultural and natural areas.
Conservation of cultural assets is a very old problem. We must protect the cultural heritage transferred from previous generations to the benefit of all of us. In the process of globalization, cultural heritage is a very important element that helps us to remember our cultural diversity and develops respect and dialogue between different cultures.
Considering the fact that the significance of cultural heritage has declined lately, we want to carry out this project in order to transfer the significance of cultural heritage to young people and to create awareness in them with regards to tangible cultural heritage.
The main objective of our project is to increase awareness in young people about the preservation of tangible cultural heritage by learning through practice. Accordingly, we identified 4 sub-targets;
1- To give information to the young about what the cultural heritage is and what its scope
2- To inform the young about the meaning, function and significsnce of the tangible cultural heritage and to increase their awareness about why this heritage should be preserved.
3- To increase the knowledge of young people on how to preserve the tangible cultural heritage.
4-To inform the young about the participation of young people in the preservation of tangible cultural heritage and to encourage them to take part in preservation processes.
