ISTE BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Biomedical engineering is an engineering branch that works for the design and development of systems necessary for the solution of human health problems based on the application of engineering principles and problem solving techniques to biology and medicine. It covers the design, production, maintenance, research and development activities of systems, products and software of mechanical and electronic devices used for diagnosis and treatment in the field of health. It is an interdisciplinary department that includes fields such as medicine, chemistry, electric-electronics, computers and machinery.
Biomedical engineering department started its education life in Iskenderun Technical University in 2018 with its undergraduate program. There are a total of 5 instructors in our department. Our students, receive training in various fields such as medical sign and image processing, circuit analysis and electronics, biomechanics, biomaterials, biosensors, biochemistry, biomedical instrumentation and software development with our lecturers who are experts in their fields, and these theoretical courses are supported by laboratories. We have 2 compulsory summer internships, each 20 working days and 40 working days in total. The 1st internship at the end of the 4th semester is the hospital internship. Students are provided with the functions and working principles of different medical devices and systems in hospitals. Industrial internship, which is the second internship at the end of the 6th semester, enables students to gain practical knowledge about how services are carried out in the developing and changing field of biomedical engineering.
In addition, our students, who successfully complete the first 7 semesters of their education, have the opportunity to find a job and work in the 8th semester (the last semester of education), within the scope of the Vocational Education in Business (IME) program, which was implemented in our university for the first time in 2017. In the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year, 13 of our students benefited from the IME program.
Our students who graduate from our department will be able to find employment opportunities in a wide range of hospitals, private sector and institutions involved in research and development activities as well-equipped biomedical engineers. In addition, they will be able to continue their graduate and doctorate education after undergraduate education and have the opportunity to work as academicians at universities.
As İskenderun Technical University Biomedical Engineering Department, our main goal is to train qualified biomedical engineers who can use their knowledge in the best way to solve problems related to human health in this field, which is newly developing in our country, where the need is increasing day by day and has a very large business volume.
