ISKENDERUN VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IS RISING ON THE HILL CAMPUS
The reconstruction works of Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) Iskenderun Vocational School (IMYO) continue on the hill campus under the principle of "Green Campus".
The reconstruction works of IMYO at ISTE continue at the hill campus focusing on a "green campus" concept. Following the heavy damage incurred during the February 6 earthquakes, the reconstruction of IMYO began through the efforts of ISTE Rector Prof. Dr. Tolga Depci in collaboration with the Middle East Technical University Eymir Cultural Foundation (EKV). Construction works at IMYO have been ongoing uninterruptedly. Recently, as a result of the discussions between Rector Depci and İsmail Işık, the Chairman of the Donation Structures Board of EKV, it was agreed to accelerate the project by two months, bringing the official completion date forward from November 28, 2024, to September 30, 2024. This agreement aims to ensure that IMYO starts the new academic year on time. The plans have been revised accordingly to meet this new deadline.
Rector Depci, who frequently inspects the works on-site, held a meeting regarding the current state of the project. During the meeting, attention was drawn to the ISTE IMYO structures, which are the only school buildings in the region with structural steel construction, continuing to serve as a model construction site for the region with its earthquake-resistant nature as well as its rapid production capability. The current status of the reconstruction works is as follows: The entire steel construction of the Metallurgy Building has been completed, and work has commenced on roofing and facade panel cladding. Column assemblies on the raft foundation have begun in the Machinery Unit Construction of the Meydan Café and landscaping works are scheduled to start in April.
ISTE and METU Eymir Cultural Foundation engineers and architects collaborated closely on every aspect of the IMYO Campus project. ISTE Rector Prof. Dr. Tolga Depci stated: "We meticulously evaluated every aspect of the project, incorporating modern lines even in the slightest details to transform it into a green campus. We aimed for sustainability to create a more livable world and campus. In collaboration with the METU Eymir Cultural Foundation, we are constructing a campus in Hatay that prioritizes pedestrian access, is barrier-free, and embraces a sustainable landscape where natural habitats are preserved. I extend my sincere gratitude to all contributors who donated to the project, on behalf of our institution and myself".
