ISTE Found Its Master Chef!
“ISTE is looking for its Chef” competition organized by the Gastronomy Society at Iskenderun Technical Society (ISTE) took place in three rounds at ISTE Dörtyol Vocational School (1st Round, on 16th of December 2019), ISTE Iskenderun Vocational School (2nd Round, on 17th of December 2019), and ISTE Main Campus (3rd Round, on 18th of December 2019). The final round was held on 26th of December at the end of which ISTE’s Chef was announced.
The competitors competed in three local food categories; Kısır (made with bulgur wheat), Kepse Pilavı (made with vegetables, chicken, and rice), and Peynirli İrmik Helvası (made with semolina and local cheese) in the “ISTE is looking for its Chef” competition. The winners of each of the three rounds presented their skills one more time in the final round to become the winner.
The jury for the final round, which took place in the Dining Halls of the Barbaros Hayrettin Naval Architecture and Maritime Faculty, included Rector’s Advisory Prof. Dr. Yasemin Bircan Yıldırım, the Dean of the Tourism Faculty Prof. Dr. Nazif Çalış, and Zeliha Dereli. Three chefs were selected in each of the food categories at the end of the final round.
The winner of the Kısır Chef title in the “ISTE is looking for its Chef” competition was Tourism Faculty student Seren Eroğlu (Gastronomy 1st Year), Engineering and Natural Sciences Faculty student Büşra Gümüş (Electrics and Electronics Engineering 4th Year) won the title of Kepse Chef, and finally Science Institute student Cansev Genç (Masters in Aquaculture) won the title of Helva Chef. At the end of the final round, the jury presented the medals to the winners.
