The Rector of Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE), Prof. Dr. Tolga Depci, issued a message for prospective university students ahead of the Preference Days following the announcement of the 2024 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) results. Rector Depci addressed the prospective students as follows:
Dear young people,
The results of the university exam, which we see as a cornerstone in shaping your future, have been announced. Each of you has worked hard and strived for success. I sincerely hope that your results reflect your efforts. After a long, challenging, and exhausting marathon, the time has come to make choices that will open up wonderful opportunities for you in the future. As one of Turkey's youngest and most distinguished technical universities, we at Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) would be delighted to welcome you as part of our family.
At ISTE, one of Turkey's youngest and distinguished technical universities, we continue to offer education through our 7 Faculties, 6 Vocational Schools, and 1 State Conservatory with a qualified staff. Our Vocational Schools, which aim to train the intermediate workforce, offer a total of 28 programs. These include the Maritime Technologies Vocational School, Dörtyol Vocational School, Dörtyol Health Services Vocational School, Erzin Organized Industrial Zone Vocational School, Iskenderun Vocational School, and the newly established Iskenderun Organized Industrial Zone Welding Vocational School, which is one of only two in Turkey. Within our 7 faculties—Barbaros Hayrettin Naval Architecture and Maritime Faculty, Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Tourism—you will find 28 different programs to choose from.
In recent years, we have been providing the rising workforce demands in the aviation and maritime sectors with our students graduating from our Maritime Transportation Management Engineering, Maritime Business Management, Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, Aviation Electrical Electronics, Aviation and Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Management, Aircraft Maintenance and Repair programs. Our students work in the aviation and maritime sector all over the world thanks to the theoretical and practical training they receive.
With the approval of our Higher Education Council (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, who has always supported our efforts to train talented students, which our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan defines as 'wanted staff, not intermediate staff', with his visionary perspective, we will also recruit students to our Welding Technology and Underwater Welding Technology programs this semester.
I am sure the other issue on every student's mind is the social facilities. For your accommodation needs, in addition to the dormitories affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, private dormitories and rental flats will also be available. In Iskenderun, the pearl of the Mediterranean, our social facilities are improving each year. In addition to the warm meal service for our students in our university cafeteria, you will also have the advantages of being a student in Hatay, the city of gastronomy. In addition, I would like both our prospective students and their families to know that life in Iskenderun has normalised to a great extent after the earthquake.
As ISTE Family, we support our researcher, inquisitive and entrepreneurial education, which we take as a basis, with applied trainings in every program. I have no doubt that we will add new ones in the next period to the successful projects we have carried out so far that add value to ISTE and the region. Behind this confidence is to work non-stop and tirelessly, with the love of duty and service to the homeland.
With these feelings and thoughts, I hope that the preferences you will make for your future will be beneficial to you, our precious young people, your families and our country, and I wish you all a happy, healthy and successful future. I would like to welcome all ISTE students to ISTE for research, learning, development and improvement.
